This guided on property tour reveals the forest's role as healer, offering an immerse look at the plants and traditions that have supported wellness and daily life in Belizean culture for
generations. Along the trails of Abezza Forest Reserve, you'll encounter native plants, each with its own story, purpose and connection to the land.
The tropical forest at Abezza shelter a wealth of these valuable species. Among them is Blood Vine used in herbal remedies and spoken of as supportive for strength and helping with
anemia; Jackass Bitters, with its famously bitter leaves used traditionally to purify the blood; and Cerasee, steeped as a tea and believed to help cleanse the body and support
digestion.
Sarsaparilla, a native vine, has long been prepared as a tonic thought to promote vitality and support joint and skin health. Aloe vera common in clearing and along forest edges,
offers its soothing gel in minor burns and skin irritations. The trumpet trees is noted in local remedies for easing menstrual discomfort, supporting respiratory health and reducing
inflammation.
Scattered throughout the rainforest are water vines, from which generations of jungle travelers have drawn fresh drinking water. The quiet drama of marching army ants ,
moving in living rivers across the forest floor, reminds visitors of the ecosystem's constant activity and balance.
The Soursop tree (Graviola), with its broad leaves and distinctive fruit, holds place in Belizean tradition for its use in home remedies and teas aimed at general wellness. While

Savanna Wildlife Tower
The Wildlife Observation Tower rises above open grassland and seasonal ponds, framed by two forest giants — a towering Ceiba tree to the left and a majestic Mahogany tree to
the right — offering panoramic views across the savanna's golden expanse. From this quiet vantage point, the landscape comes alive: Wood Storks and Jabiru Storks standing tall
among the grasses; Bare-throated Tiger Herons and Great Blue Herons stalking the shallows; Roseate Spoonbills sweeping their pink beaks in search of food.
Watch as Whistling Ducks forage, while White-Frosted, Yellow Parrots and Aztec Parakeets flash across the sky. The air is fill with the calls of Kiskadees, the quick brilliance of
Kingfishers, and the sights of Green Iguanas and River Turtles basking in the sun.

Wetland Sanctuary
Abezza wetland sanctuary is a peaceful world of mirrored canals and streams. Trails guide you close to this delicate ecosystem without disturbing its balance.
Among the lily pads, Northern Jacanas step lightly, while Purple Gallinules shimmer in shades of blue and green. Common Gallinules glide between reeds. Above, a Black-collared
Hawk circles on thermals, and a Laughing Falcon surveys its hunting grounds. In the stillness, a Morelet's Crocodile may rise from the water. ancient, silent and powerful.

Tropical Hardwood Forest
Enter a living cathedral of Mahogany, Ceiba and Sapodilla trees. Shafts of light cuts through the canopy, revealing hidden details: Blue Morphos and owl butterflies drifting through
the understory; the deep calls of Howler Monkeys; the soft steps of White Tail Deers.
The forest shelters Baird's Tapir, elusive Ocelots and Margays, the quiet strength of a Jaguar, and curious Coatimundis. Every layer of the rainforest hums with life, waiting to be
discovered.

Abezza is home to all five of Belize's wildcats: Jaguar, Puma, Ocelot, Margay and Jaguarundi. Our forest and jungle also shelter Baird's Tapir, Collared Peccary, White-tailed Deer,
Coatis, Armadillos and Gibnuts.
Birdlife flourishes here: Storks (seen below), Keel-billed Toucans, Blue Crown Motmots, Trogons, Herons, Egrets and more. Reptiles such as Basilisk Lizard and River Turtles
complete the reserve's vibrant ecosystem.
